Founded in 1912, the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Robert College (later Boğaziçi University) initially operated in Gates Hall. Its early curriculum was prepared by Prof. John R. Allen and finalized by Lynn Adolphus Scipio. Graduate education began in 1957-58, with the first master’s and PhD degrees awarded in 1961 and 1978, respectively. The department moved to Perkins Hall in 1963, and its laboratories are now mostly in Kare Blok and New Hall. It has been ABET-accredited since 1998, with renewals in 2004, 2010, and 2015.
